Job Summary: The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients in OPD, Emergency, Labour Room, and inpatient departments. The role includes assisting medical staff in patient management, monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols. The Staff Nurse plays a key role in promoting patient safety and ensuring effective nursing care delivery.

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Staff Nurse based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region. 

Key Responsibilities:

A. Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients according to established standards and protocols.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
  • Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed.
  • Assist doctors during examination and treatment procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and surgeries.
  • Provide wound care and dressing services.
  • Maintain patient comfort and ensure proper hygiene.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to the concerned doctor
  • Provide emergency nursing care when required.
  • Ensure safe patient handling and positioning.

B. Labour Room Responsibilities (Where Applicable):

  • Assist in normal deliveries and obstetric procedures.
  • Prepare labour room equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor labour progress using partograph (if trained).
  • Provide care to mothers during antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal periods.
  • Assist in newborn care and resuscitation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of labour room.

C. Emergency & Inpatient Care:

  • Provide emergency nursing care to critical patients.
  • Assist in emergency procedures such as CPR and resuscitation.
  • Prepare emergency trays and ensure availability of supplies.
  • Monitor admitted patients and maintain observation charts.

D. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC):

  • Follow infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Maintain sterilization and proper waste disposal practices.
  • Ensure cleanliness of wards and clinical areas.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.

E. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain nursing records, registers, and reports.
  • Ensure proper documentation of medications and treatments.
  • Maintain stock of medicines and supplies in assigned areas.
  • Report shortages of supplies to the supervisor.
  • Follow duty rosters and maintain punctuality.

F. Patient Education & Counselling:

  • Educate patients and attendants on treatment plans.
  • Provide counselling on hygiene, nutrition, and medication adherence.
  • Promote breastfeeding and newborn care awareness.
  • Support health education activities within the facility.

G. Coordination & Teamwork:

  • Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
  • Support smooth functioning of clinical services.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain professional relationships with patients and staff.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma in General Nursing or BSc Nursing, from a recognized institution with valid PNC registration, specialization in Midwifery, LHV and Critical Care will be added advantage.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setup preferred, however, fresh graduates may also apply.
  • Possesses basic clinical certifications such as ultrasound, BLS/ACLS.
  • Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
  • Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Possesses strong integrity, intellectual humility and demonstrable expertise in navigating ambiguity and constant change.
