Background: Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) runs one of the largest not-for-profit private healthcare systems in the country, with a focus on the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh. Its core focus includes initiatives for hard-to-reach populations through services like outreach clinics, training of community midwives to provide low-cost health services in remote areas, screening for non-communicable diseases, and digital health solutions.

Job Summary: The Medical Officer (MO) will provide quality clinical services in OPD, Emergency, and inpatient wards in accordance with hospital clinical protocols, EPHS standards, and patient safety guidelines. The MO will work under the supervision of the PMO/SMO and contribute to improved service delivery, strengthened referral systems, and overall hospital performance.

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent Medical Officer (MO) based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region. 

Key Responsibilities:

A. Clinical Service Delivery:

  • Provide medical services in OPD, Emergency, and IPD as per the duty roster.
  • Conduct clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients.
  • Prescribe medicines rationally and ensure safe patient care practices.
  • Ensure timely consultation with PMO/SMO for complicated or high-risk cases.

B. Emergency and Inpatient Management:

  • Provide emergency medical care, including triage, resuscitation, stabilization, and initial management.
  • Ensure proper admission, discharge, and referral of patients as per hospital SOPs.
  • Monitor admitted patients and ensured appropriate documentation of progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Participate in ward rounds and case discussions as required.

C. Quality of Care and Patient Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs), clinical protocols, and hospital SOPs.
  • Implement infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in all clinical practices.
  • Promote patient safety, confidentiality, respectful care, and ethical medical practice.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits when assigned.

D. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation, including OPD slips, registers, patient files, referral notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure timely completion of medico-legal documentation (where applicable).
  • Support HMIS/DHIS reporting by ensuring complete and accurate patient data entry and reporting.

E. Referral System Strengthening and Coordination:

  • Establish and maintain strong coordination with nearby health facilities (BHU/RHC/THQ and private providers) to strengthen the referral and counter-referral system.
  • Coordinate with community-based health workers, LHWs, vaccinators, and other frontline health staff to ensure timely identification and referral of critical cases.
  • Support improved patient flow and referral documentation to enhance hospital performance indicators.
  • Ensure proper follow-up of referred cases and continuity of care where possible.

F. Support to Facility Administration and Cost Recovery:

  • Support facility administration in implementing cost recovery mechanisms as per approved hospital policy and rate list.
  • Ensure proper service documentation and coding to support accurate billing and revenue tracking.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy, laboratory, reception, and administration staff to ensure transparent and appropriate service charging.
  • Contribute to efficient utilization of medicines, diagnostics, and hospital resources to improve service efficiency and sustainability.

G. Team Coordination and Capacity Support:

  • Coordinate effectively with nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, and support staff to ensure smooth patient care.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and support to paramedics and nursing staff during duty hours.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and capacity-building sessions as directed by PMO/SMO/Clinical Manager.

H. Professional Conduct and Development:

  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to duty rosters and organizational policies.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior, respectful communication, and teamwork.
  • Participate in continuous medical education, refresher trainings, and learning activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by PMO/SMO relevant to service delivery and hospital performance.

I. Key Deliverables

  • Timely and quality medical services in OPD, Emergency, and IPD.
  • Improved emergency stabilization and referral management.
  • Accurate clinical documentation and HMIS support.
  • Strengthened coordination with peripheral facilities and improved referral linkages.
  • Contribution to cost recovery and improved facility performance.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • MBBS with valid PMDC registration.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred, however, fresh graduates completed house job may apply.
  • Possesses basic clinical certifications such as BLS/ACLS.
  • Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
  • Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
  • Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
